Video poker game types

Although there are hundreds of variations of video poker, many of which come with increasingly jazzy names designed to grab your attention, they all fall within three main categories:

Video poker

Video poker is a contest between you and the machine. During a game of video poker the dealer (the machine) will deal you five cards. When you receive your hand you must decide which cards to hold (keep) or discard. The dealer will then deal the required number of new cards to take the number of cards in your hand back up to five (once your discarded cards have been removed). The objective is to finish the game with the strongest hand possible. The payout at the end of the game is dependent on the value of the hand you are holding.

Power poker

Power Poker is a contest between you and the machine. The objective is to finish the game with the strongest hands possible. During a game of Power Poker the dealer will deal you four hands of five cards each.

When you receive your first hand you must decide which cards to hold and which to discard. When you hold a card in the first hand, all the cards in the same positions in the other hands will take the same value. The payout at the end of the game is dependent on the value of the hand you are holding. If you have won, the game will offer you an additional opportunity to increase your winnings by participating in a doubling phase.

Progressive video poker

Progressive video poker is a contest between you and the machine. During a game of Progressive video poker the dealer will deal you two hands of five cards each. When you receive your first hand you must decide which cards to hold/keep or discard. The objective is to finish the game with the strongest hand possible and try to win the progressive jackpot.

The progressive jackpot is a constantly accumulating prize, the value of which is displayed and regularly updated in the video poker game. Normally, about 1% of the money fed into the game across an online casino network is added to the jackpot each time the game is played. This jackpot continues to increase until someone gets a Royal Flush after playing with five coins, at which time they win the progressive jackpot.

Progressive video poker is only available for play to real money account users. Guest account users may watch the progressive accumulate but cannot play the game.
